Did You Know....
Last year, 95% of UK companies reported that a firewall had been installed on their network and of these, 80% claimed they had experienced a security related breach.
This figure, according to the DTI's Information Security Breaches Survey 2006 (ISBS), indicates that small companies in particular are still not securing their networks effectively.
The DTI estimates that the annual total cash loss in UK economy resulting from security breaches has increased to £10bn.

Most security breaches are directly attributable to human error.  Whether a firewall port has been inadvertently left open or web server remains un-patched, the results can often be disastrous.

PC Surgeon has the expertise to ensure that systems are better secured and staff are trained to follow any relevant security procedures.

At PC Surgeon, we believe that proper security results in customers and suppliers being given extended network access.  This in turn will entail more services being available to them, such as shipment tracking, account control, stock querying, calendar searches, etc.

Let your customers get the full benefit of your network.

Why Windows Firewall is not enough....

Security breaches have become very complex.  Methods involve scanning, penetration, propagation, calls home and more often than not utter control of a machine.

Windows Firewall will prevent unrequested external traffic, but not traffic requested internally such as web content.  In addition, should such content be malicious, the firewall will not stop subsequent and inevitable maliciously intended internal to external 'calls-to-home'.

For example, were you to open a site which could exploit a vulnerability on your computer, this site would usually attempt to install an easily accessible "backdoor".  This would mean your computer would be made to connect out-bound to a remote server, where it could be instructed to download further viruses etc.

What can  be done?

By installing a firewall capable of monitoring traffic in both directions, as well as an Intrusion Protection System, malicious content can be checked and destroyed.

PC Surgeon installs such systems and at surprisingly low cost.  These systems range from  low cost desktop software firewalls for the single user, to high-end corporate level Unified Threat Management Systems (UTMs) designed for thousands of users.
